Woman Born With Cerebral Palsy Opens CrossFit Gym

Steph Hammerman has a love for fitness. She is the world’s first level 2 CrossFit trainer with cerebral palsy. Steph has entered a new venture in her life as she has become a business owner. Steph and her boyfriend recently opened their own gym in Knightdale, North Carolina called Hammer Driven Fitness.

“I really, truly, want people to feel like an athlete. I don’t care if you come in and you feel the most unfit. When you leave my class, I want you to feel empowered.”

Steph’s passion for fitness started eight years ago when she competed in her first handcycle race. She says, “At the end of the race, I looked at my hands and I looked at the clock. I was like my hands hurt really bad, but that’s awesome!”

Steph is paving the way for adaptive athletes in the CrossFit community. She has competed on the competition floor at the CrossFit Games, which is known as ‘the Superbowl of the CrossFit world in Wisconsin’.
