Thinking About Trying Sports?

Getting involved in sports opens up your mind and helps you to adapt to the situation you’re in.

“Once you get involve with sports… that’s when you start to rebuild your confidence…You start to open up to the world. You will never regret being involved in sports, especially people with disabilities.”

It allows you to communicate with other people with similar disabilities and to be part of a team – to work together, to encourage and support one another and to achieve a goal together. It makes you grow as a person. Sports are something that Eric values and it has been a big part of his life, especially since he became a tetraplegic 18 years ago. He’s very active and he tries various sports. He used to compete internationally in wheelchair racing, and now he’s training in table tennis for the upcoming AEAN Paragames. “Perseverance and endurance. Two very important characteristics if you want to achieve something…you can’t just pick up a sport and expect overnight success,” Eric shares.

If you want to take part in any sports, you should just go for it and not procrastinate.

“Do it right away…The more you wait, the more your muscles are wasting away…time is slipping away too…You can start even when you’re still in rehab. That’s the best way of maintaining your sensibility and your mind being engage in something.”
