The StrongWheeled Together Awards Are Back with New Categories and New Prizes

Nominations Close April 30

The StrongWheeled Together Awards celebrate the best and the brightest wheelchair users from around the nation. In 2024, we are centering the Awards on the idea of community.

Award-winners may be randomly selected to receive a power or manual wheelchair courtesy of the Permobil Foundation. Two randomly selected winners will also be awarded Restorative Therapies’ RT300, which incorporates FES for legs, arms, and core rehabilitation.

SWT nominations

Nominations are now open for wheelchair users in the following award categories:

Community Voice

The Barry Corbet Community Voice Award honors an individual who deepens disability representation in American public life. It is open to artists, writers, and performers of all types, including content creators.

Community Visionary

The Brooke Ellison Community Visionary Award honors an individual advancing the fields of technology or business, while exemplifying ideals around civic engagement and social responsibility—especially when it comes to the disability community.

Community Builder

The James J. Peters Community Builder Award honors an individual who has meaningfully improved the community for wheelchair users by successfully advocating for quality disability services, accessible infrastructure, or enhanced access to opportunities.

awardsRespondents are welcome to nominate themselves, or someone they know who qualifies for any of these categories. Please note that the judging process may require the production of original written and/or multimedia materials and documentation of accomplishments from every nominee who advances through the process.

The Awards Ceremony will take place during the annual StrongWheeled Together Conference, October 17-19 at Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas, to which all awardees will be invited. All lodging and flight expenses for awardees and their personal caregivers will be paid for by United Spinal Association.
