“Sports is a lifestyle,” Stanley, a tetraplegic in Singapore shares. “I’ve been looking for one sport that really fits into my lifestyle,” He has played table tennis for over a year and he’s hoping to win a medal from competing in the ASEAN Para Games, just as he did for other sports in other competitions.
“Table tennis is more of a competitive game. When it’s time to get aggressive, we will be more aggressive. When it’s time to play strategy then you should play strategy.”
Playing a competitive sport like table tennis, you can’t let your emotions get the best of you. Your mind has to be aligned with the strategy you’re playing in each game. He advises anyone interested in getting into sports to giving it a shot. “You must take the first step…Once you get into your first step, the momentum will start to kick in,” he shares. “Try to do more physically intense sports. Table tennis, you can do it if you really really like it,” he suggests to young wheelchair users. “When you’re young you need to train your muscles so that’s the point of time when you need to do more intensive sports like swimming or wheelchair racing.”
Stanley also enjoys swimming and would consider trying other sports too – he never turns down a challenge!
