Stretching your limbs is vital if you want to maintain your overall health. Leg stretches, whether done independently or with the aid of a caregiver, help with things like proper position in your wheelchair, spasticity, and transfers.
Leg stretches that caregivers can assist with to ensure that feet and legs stay flexible and loose:
- Stretch the ankle by bending the foot back to the knee.
- Bring the leg out to the side, keeping toes pointed to the ceiling.
- Lift the leg straight up to stretch hamstring.
- Bend the knee to the chest and hold for 20 seconds.
- Bend the knee out to the side to stretch the rotators.
