Antonio, a quadriplegic since the age of 19, got into wheelchair rugby four years after his injury after a few guys introduced him to the sport.
“It was great, it was a great sport,” he explains. “Strengthened me up, got me tougher, and it was great.” Although he’s no longer playing, he misses it. As for wheelchair rugby itself, “it’s a rough sport, I mean. We crash, we hit each other, it’s a great sport but it’s pretty rough,” he shares. “It’s not for the faint of heart, but I enjoy it.” Antonio also benefited from having a sport to get out some aggression that can build up being in a wheelchair.
