Building The Garden Box

Jenn decided to go with a 6″x2″2″ rectangle box to make sure she could reach the plants from all four sides of the box. The box was made from made from pre-treated lumber and sealed with plastic landscape sheeting. Jenn says this proved to be an easy project with the help of an extra pair of hands (her sister’s) to hold pieces in place. Jenn’s husband assembled the box using four 2x12x6 boards, a 4x4x8 post for the corners, and 3-inch deck screws.

Filling The Garden Box

Jenn admits that she underestimated how much soil it would take to fill the garden box. Twenty-two bags of soil (880 pounds) were used to fill the box. Jenn researched what vegetables would do best in containers. She decided to plant seeds of tomatoes, bell peppers, lettuce, garden peas, spaghetti squash, carrots, and lettuce.
