On 31st August 2009 Hilary Lister became the first woman with a disability to sail solo around Britain. She is only able to move her head and sails using three straws to control the boat. Hilary sailed into the record books on 23rd August 2005 when she sailed solo across the English Channel and she recently sailed form Mumbai to Muscat with an Omani woman, Nashwa al Kindi. She gives motivational talks to groups from all walks of life both nationally and internationally. Her current project is to sail from Seychelles to Muscat (around 1500 nautical miles) in preparation for sailing the Atlantic.
