Cable row exercises are a great way to strengthen some of the muscles in your back, upper trunk, and arms including the trapezius muscles, latissimus dorsi, and biceps.
Shepherd Center has created a video showing how a C5/6 quadriplegic can complete single arm cable rows using a couple adaptive devices. With the aid of a trainer or assistant, here are the steps to follow to complete a cable row.
- First, position your wheelchair in front of the cable system, making sure the pulley is just below chest level.
- Next, use an assistive grasping device that will help you maintain a firm grip on the handle of the cable.
- Then, be sure to secure your trunk to your chair by using a trunk strap that wraps around both you and your chair.
- Attach the cable handle to the assistive grasping device of one hand.
- Then in a steady motion, pull the cable toward your body keeping your palm facing in and your elbow tucked.
- Repeat using the other arm.
