Quadriplegic Mom Demonstrates How She Puts Socks On Her Baby

Meg Johnson is a mother who is a quadriplegic with limited hand function. She shares videos on how she accomplishes daily living tasks for her children to be a resource for others.

Meg demonstrates how she puts socks on her daughter’s feet.

“It takes me a decent time to put socks on,” says Meg as she begins the process of putting socks on her daughter. Meg attempts to open the sock with her hands. She has the ability to grip some with one hand while using her pinky finger on the other to open up the sock. She occasionally uses her mouth to pull at one side of the sock to open it up wider, slipping her finger in the opening so it does not close.

“If you’re going to do something you better do it right…or at least good enough!”

Meg gets the sock over her daughter’s foot as she grips one end of the sock with one hand while stretching it with the pinky finger of her other hand. To pull the sock on her daughter’s foot Meg uses her gripping hand to pull the material up, eventually using her teeth to pull the sock further on her daughter’s foot. With the sock on her daughter’s foot far enough to where it will not fall off, Meg then hooks her pinky finger at the bottom of the sock and pulls it up all the way.

Meg’s daughter patiently waits for Meg to finish! Do you have techniques you use to accomplish tasks for your children? Share your story with us at AbleThrive.com!
