This quadriplegic has tips for putting in contacts independently. Beth, a C6-7 quadriplegic, has one index finger that extends slightly, but otherwise no finger movement.
She uses her index finger to find the contact in the case, and uses her fingers to move it around to the right place. She uses her non-dominant hand to push up her eyelid, and uses her middle finger on her strong hand to pull down the bottom lid, so she can put the contact on her eye. If the fingers don’t work to open the upper eyelid, “you can even use your thumb or the side of your hand or anything to lift it up,” she says.
