Paraplegic Mom Puts Toddler in SUV

Kyia is a T12/L1 paraplegic who demonstrates how she gets her toddler son in his backward-facing car seat in her SUV.

“I used to have a car, and with a car it’s WAY easier. But when I got pregnant I wanted a ‘mom car’ so I got this one.”

Since the SUV sits higher than a sedan, it’s a bit of a stretch for Kyia. But she still manages to pull it off and make it look easy.

First she wheels up to the back seat with her son on her lap. Then she stands him up so that he’s facing her, and she holds him firmly with her hands around his chest. On the count of three, she lifts him up and places him gently in his car seat, and gets him all buckled in in the five-point harness.

With a little bit of practice and determination, Kyia can now get her son safely into his car seat in under one minute!
