Putting a legacy gift in place is easy, and it’s a meaningful way to continue to create fulfilling and productive lives for people with a spinal cord injury/disease.

When speaking with your financial advisor about your estate plans, the language below can be used to designate your legacy gift to United Spinal Association:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to United Spinal Association, 120-34 Queens Blvd., Suite 330, Kew Gardens, NY 11415, __% for its general purposes, the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate whether real or personal.”

or

“I give, devise, and bequeath to United Spinal Association, 120-34 Queens Blvd., Suite 330, Kew Gardens, NY 11415, the sum of $___ for its general uses and purposes.”

There are several other legacy-giving opportunities you can discuss with your advisor that may be of interest to you, including:
.

  • Naming United Spinal as a beneficiary of your IRA or Qualified Retirement Plan;
  • Naming United Spinal as a beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy;
  • Gifting Appreciated Property such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds or real estate;
  • Starting at 70½, gifting your IRA’s required distribution directly to United Spinal, which can serve as a non-taxable withdrawal for you and a contribution to us.
  • Establishing a Trust that provides funds to United Spinal for a period of time prior to transfer to your heirs.

To make a gift now through your advisor, Depository Transfer Check (DTC) is our preferred method. For Stocks and IRA distributions, contact AJ Assaadi, Vice President of Development, for banking information. Please let us know if you are making a gift through United Spinal’s DTC so we can ensure that you receive the proper acknowledgement for tax purposes.

To discuss these giving opportunities and more, please contact Brenda Beard, Director of Giving at bbeard@unitedspinal.org.
