Meg Johnson enjoys playing on the floor with her daughters. Meg is a quadriplegic with limited hand function who does not have use of her back and stomach muscles. She demonstrates how she puts her baby in her lap while sitting on the floor.
“We just come in little stages,” says Meg as she hooks her hand under her daughter’s armpit and gently pulls her closer to her. Her daughter is on her stomach baring weight through her arms, almost in a crawling position.
When her daughter is close enough to her, Meg wraps one arm around the baby’s chest while using the other arm to position her feet. With both arms securing her daughter, Meg then flips her onto her back and she lands securely in the crevice of Meg’s arms.
Meg then moves her daughter slowly into her lap. She lets go of her legs to secure her own balance. The baby does squirm a little and ends up on her stomach in Meg’s lap. But once her daughter is in her lap, Meg repositions her into a sitting position.
