Experts in spinal cord injuries (SCI)
Gaylord Hospital is one of two facilities in the country with CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation for all inpatient rehabilitation programs and specialty accreditation for spinal cord, stroke, and brain Injury specialty programs.
We are partner site of the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center – one of 14 Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems in the U.S., which means we work with other leading programs to improve spinal injury care and outcomes. Many experts consider Gaylord to have the region’s top SCI program.

SCI Technologies
Ekso Bionic Exoskeleton. A portable, adjustable neuro-robotic suit used for walking after an SCI – the only such system in the state. The patient provides balance and proper body positioning while the EksoTM allows the user to walk with a reciprocal gait. A physical therapist with special training uses the control pad to program the desired walking parameters, such as gait length and speed.
ZeroG Gait & Balance System. This system – the only one of its kind in the state – protects patients from falls while providing dynamic body-weight support as patients practice walking, balance tasks, sit-to-stand maneuvers and stairs. Because ZeroG is mounted to an overhead track, there are no barriers between the patient and therapist. Inpatients can begin rehabilitation as early as possible in a safe, controlled environment.
AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill. AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmills use NASA-developed Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology that enables unprecedented unweighting therapy and training capabilities that comfortably lift the patient user and allows him/her to walk or run at a fraction of their body weight.
