Anaya is a 7-year-old first grader who was born without hands. She recently won a national penmanship honor when she was awarded the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence in Penmanship.
Anaya does not wear prosthetics. Instead, she writes with her forearms. Her skills with the pencil were so good that her principal encouraged her to enter the national penmanship competition.
“She is determined. She is independent. She is a vivacious and a no-excuses type of young lady,” says Anaya’s principal.
Upon seeing her entry, the judges were stunned to learn that Anaya writes without hands. Anaya’s parents consider their daughter to be like all her other friends. They know not to doubt her ability when it comes to doing things other kids her age do. She’s been talking to her parents about taking karate or gymnastics as her next adventure.
