I Use a Wheelchair - You Want to Date Me?

Courtney is a young woman in her mid 20s. She’s outgoing and full of confidence. But she wasn’t always so confident, especially when it came to dating.

Courtney is a paraplegic, and she uses a wheelchair for mobility. She shares that when it comes to dating, she’s encountered her fair share of negative comments and attitudes as a result of her disability.

“Once in awhile I’ll run into guys who make it clear that they are bothered by the fact that I’m not walking like the majority.”

Courtney admits that this rejection hurt at first. “It made me feel sort of low, to think that someone I’m interested in, doesn’t see me the way they’d see a typical girl,” she shares. “But then….it hit me like a ton of bricks. Who are they to determine if I am capable of being a good lover?”

Now Courtney sees the fact that she “rolls with life” acts as a sort of filter for weeding out disingenuous people – and those who make it through the filter are far more likely to make a connection.

“You want to date me? You’re falling for me? You must not be a judgmental person, and I think that’s a beautiful way to go about living life.”
