Paralyzed Dad Attends Daughter's Wedding

Paul Curtis is a former rugby player who became a quadriplegic as a result of a mountain bike accident. Right after his accident, Paul started thinking about his daughter’s upcoming wedding. As he laid on the ground waiting for emergency services, Paul even asked his best friend to walk his daughter down the aisle.

Paul’s best friend never got the chance to fulfill the duty. A year after his injury, Paul was by his daughter’s side as he took her down the aisle to give her away.

Paul received treatment for seven months at the University of Wales hospital. Paul was determined to see his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day. He says the support from his family was a factor in making this goal happen.

“‘We’ve had to work out the logistics of being (home), and finding somewhere capable of dealing with me overnight, but once we found that out, everything started to fall into place.”

Paul’s wife says the family has been lucky to have the support of local caregivers and district nurses who have volunteered to help Paul.

Paul’s daughter says that her father being able to attend her wedding was ‘magical’ because there was a time where she didn’t think it would be possible.
