Sustaining a Relationship After a Spinal Cord Injury

Rose’s husband became a quadriplegic at 22, but that certainly hasn’t made their lives inadequate in any way, shape, or form. Rose shares the normalcy she and her husband found after his injury.

“I think we’re just so blessed to have one another, and I don’t think that our emotional relationship has changed much.”

She reveals that although she and her husband have always leaned on each other, that they now respect each other more and communicate better.

Speaking about their physical relationship, Rose says not much has changed in that area. She admits she occasionally misses her husband’s hugs while he walked, but says, “We still are able to have that physical and emotional bond.”

Rose sums up her approach to what’s become her new normal:

“You change the way you think.”
