Paraplegic Student Wants to Become Fashion Designer

In 2007, Destini and her family were in a car crash while on vacation, and Destini’s injuries resulted in paraplegia. While the teenager admits the initial adjustment period to life with a spinal cord injury was difficult, she has since come to terms with living life on wheels.

“Just because I’m in a chair, it doesn’t stop me because I can still continue on with life,”

Destini attends Henry Viscardi School, a campus for students with physical disabilities, where she is the student council president. Destini is also the co-captain of the wheelchair basketball team, and is a member of the yearbook committee. She’s outspoken, sassy, and confident.

As for the future, Destini is looking to attend college and major in business. “I would like to become a fashion designer for people with disabilities,” she shares. Her plans also include starting a modelling agency for people with disabilities as well.

She hopes that her big plans for her future help to motivate others who may find themselves in similar circumstances as her.
