My name is Annie Streit, and I reside in Angola, IN. I graduated from Ball State University with a teaching degree in Social Studies Education. In 2015, I began my career as a children’s book author and motivational speaker.
I have spoken to groups of all ages about my experiences with navigating through life from a wheelchair for the past 15 years as the result of a diving accident. My children’s books also stem from these experiences and they focus on understanding and embracing our differences, overcoming obstacles, and the power of positive thinking and kindness.
I am extremely excited to take on the role of Grassroots Advocacy Manager for United Spinal Association because I want to help those who do not have a voice, and I want to be proactive in my ability to take action and fight for the rights that we all deserve. I have experienced many bumps along the road since my SCI, and I want to take what I have learned to help in any way possible to make the journey smoother for others.
I am extremely thankful for this opportunity and I am honored to be a member of the United Spinal team! I am looking forward to learning from and working with all of you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at advocacy@unitedspinal.org.
