United Spinal Partners with Google Accessibility Team

At United Spinal we believe technology can help bring more independence for people living with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D). We strive to bring our members, loved ones, care providers and professionals the most helpful and relevant information available.

In an effort to continue this mission, we’re excited to announce our partnership with the Google Accessibility team. Google continues to be a leader in the accessibility space with a number of products and services helping people with disabilities live a greater independence.

What You Can Expect
Our community manager, Brook McCall, has been trained with Google’s Accessibility team on a number of products and accessibility features and functionalities. She is here to answer any questions you may have about Google’s products and assistive technology. In addition, we will be working with Google to provide product and feature updates monthly to the community. Our first product highlight (below) was inspired by members of the Tech Access Initiative .

Google Nest
Voice-enabled technology is a game changer for our community to enhance quality of life at home and encourage independent living. Through products such as the Google Home Mini, you can have greater control of daily tasks from turning on music to finding out the latest news. With just your voice, make calls on Google Home (can’t dial 911) and receive video or audio calls through Google Duo and your speakers or displays. Additionally, when coupled with partner products and other applications, a Google Home Mini can help community members control compatible devices so they can turn on lights, adjust the temperature, and even see who is at the front door.

Find a Nest Pro
Google has partnered with OnTech Smart Services to offer convenient expert installation, with same and next-day appointments nationwide. Check out the Google Nest Help Center to learn more about installation and device support.

Privacy
From our partners at Google: “When you use our services, you’re trusting us with your information. We understand this is a big responsibility and work hard to protect your information and put you in control.” Learn more about Google’s Privacy Policy and their commitment to privacy in the home.

Become a Google Accessibility Trusted Tester
Google’s Accessibility Trusted Tester program is one way they gather feedback about Google products. Testers try new Google products before the general public, then provide feedback directly to Google engineering teams.

The Accessibility Trusted Tester program is currently available within the United States. If you’re passionate about providing feedback and improving accessibility, learn more and apply for the Accessibility Trusted Tester program.
