James J. Peters Legacy Society

Enhancing the Quality of Life of Millions of People Living with Spinal Cord Injuries and Disorders.
When you make a legacy gift and join United Spinal’s James J. Peters Legacy Society, you create lasting change.
You also join an elite group of people who honor the memory of a most patriotic veteran and outstanding human being, and ensure that current and future generations of people living with spinal cord injuries or disorders receive United Spinal programs and services that maximize their health, independence and destiny.
Members of the James J. Peters Fellowship Society receive a certificate and pin, invitations to special United Spinal events, insider updates, financial/tax benefits depending on the gift, and recognition on United Spinal’s website and in its publications.
Creating a legacy gift is easy, and it’s a meaningful way to continue helping wheelchair users live fulfilling and productive lives.
When speaking with your financial advisor about your estate plans, the language below can be used to designate your legacy gift to United Spinal Association:
“I give, devise, and bequeath to United Spinal Association, 102 Duane Road, Fort Totten, NY 11359, __% for its general purposes, the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate whether real or personal.”
or
“I give, devise, and bequeath to United Spinal Association, 102 Duane Road, Fort Totten, NY 11359, the sum of $___ for its general uses and purposes.”
There are several other legacy-giving opportunities you can discuss with your advisor that may be of interest to you, including:
.
- Naming United Spinal as a beneficiary of your IRA or Qualified Retirement Plan;
- Naming United Spinal as a beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy;
- Gifting Appreciated Property such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds or real estate;
- Starting at 70½, gifting your IRA’s required distribution directly to United Spinal, which can serve as a non-taxable withdrawal for you and a contribution to us.
- Establishing a Trust that provides funds to United Spinal for a period of time prior to transfer to your heirs.
Consider talking to your advisor about making a gift through a Depository Transfer Check (DTC). Please let us know if you make a gift through United Spinal’s DTC so we can ensure you receive the proper acknowledgment for tax purposes.
