Have you ever wanted to get involved in advocacy at either a federal, state or local level? It is never too late to become an advocate! A great way to start is by educating yourself on some of the issues surrounding the disability community.
Head over to the United Spinal Advocacy Center. Check out the advocacy issues there and see which ones are a good fit for you. The list is continually updated throughout the year to keep our advocates up to date. Remember, not every public policy issue will strike a chord with you. That’s the beauty of advocacy! You can pick and choose whichever cause you want to carry the banner for.
Through our Advocacy Center, you can take action on any of the issues listed with a click of a button, and directly contact your Members of Congress. If you’d like to know who they are, you can find them here.
If you are interested in local issues affecting your state or municipality, get involved with one of our local chapters. This is a great way to come together and meet like-minded members who want to make a difference in a positive way. In any event, don’t worry, our policy staff is always willing and able to answer your questions and point you in the right direction on how best to make an impact on the issues of your choosing. For any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Senior Policy Associate, Jasey Cárdenas at jcardenas@unitedspinal.org and he can help guide you on how you can best get involved.
Advocates have historically been the fuel that drives the engines of change and reform. You can serve no higher purpose than to serve your fellow Americans.
