A little girl who is a wheelchair user is playing basketball in her wheelchair.Join United Spinal in celebrating #GivingTuesday by supporting our mission. Your gift will make life-enhancing programs and services available to people with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D) in communities throughout our nation.

#GivingTuesday, Tuesday, November 27, 2018, is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in countries around the world. Millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

Here’s just a few great ways you can support United Spinal Association this #GivingTuesday:

Fundraise with Causevox
CauseVox is a peer-to-peer fundraising platform that brings together people – just like you – who are inspired by our mission of enhancing the lives of people with SCI/D. Causevox offers the opportunity to create a personalized United Spinal fundraising page and share it with friends, family, business associates, and other acquaintances. Get started on Causevox.

Sponsor a Backpack
Transform lives by making a pledge to support United Spinal’s New Beginning Backpack Initiative. Our wheelchair backpacks contain valuable resources that help individuals affected by SCI/D regain their independence and conquer the challenges of living with disability. Sponsor a backpack.

Shop with AmazonSmile
Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to United Spinal Association when you sign up for Amazon Smile and select United Spinal. Ensure Your Legacy with a Planned Gift
You can make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals with SCI/D by making a planned gift to United Spinal. Your gift will ensure that future generations of people living with SCI/D receive the programs and services that maximize their independence and enable them to remain active in their communities. For more information, please contact: Peter Wayne, Vice President for Development at (718) 803-3782 x7019 or pwayne@unitedspinal.org.

Employer Donation Matching
Did you know that many companies offer a matching gift program to encourage philanthropy among their employees? Some companies even match gifts by spouses and retirees. By simply completing an employer’s matching gift form (online or paper), you may be able to double, or even triple the impact of your gift! Use the search option on our ‘Ways to Give’ webpage to see if your employer participates in a matching gift program.

Donate a Car
Donating your vehicle can help support the mission of United Spinal Association. It’s as easy as filling out the online donation form or picking up a phone and speaking to a live operator. Learn more.

Show Off Your Support
Show off your support of United Spinal this #GivingTuesday by telling your friends and followers on social media that you believe in our mission and that they should too. Every contribution will enable wheelchair users, disabled veterans, and others living with SCI/D to lead productive, independent lives. And, public support assures that someone is always there, advocating for improved rights and greater opportunities for people with disabilities. Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury can result in paralysis of the muscles used for breathing; paralysis and/or loss of feeling in all or some of the trunk, arms, and legs; weakness; numbness; loss of bowel and bladder control; and numerous secondary conditions including respiratory problems, pressure sores, and sometimes fatal spikes in blood pressure. Approximately 12,000 new spinal cord injuries occur in the U.S. each year. A majority of injuries occur from motor vehicle accidents, falls, work-related accidents, sports injuries, and penetrations such as stab or gunshot wounds.

Our membership community provides a lifeline for many individuals that are focused on regaining their independence and improving their quality of life––whether they are leaving rehab after sustaining a spinal cord injury, learning to live with symptoms of a spinal cord disorder, or have spent years of frustration coping with disability.
