Veterans Adaptive Sports

Veterans Adaptive Sp;orts promotes rehabilitation of disabled military service veterans through adaptive sports. We serve our veterans with spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments, and neurological injuries.

Participants are male and female veterans with spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments and neurological injuries”.

Advancements in physical medicine, technology and public awareness of disabilities have provided new opportunities for our disabled veterans. Veterans Adaptive Sports evolved to take advantage of these to develop programs based on competitive sports, leisure sports and recreational activities to rejuvenate and inspire disabled veterans to re-capture their lives.

Programs & Services

Veterans Adaptive Sports’ goal is to provide as many recreational sport opportunities as possible to serve veterans with a variety of disabilities. We plan trips coordinated with national organizations as well as plan trips unique to our member veterans. Each trip involves adaptive sports based on the venue selected.

Annual Trips
Each year trips are planned to organize a group of disabled veterans to participate in the adaptive sport(s) of the season and selected venue.

Summer
Trips are organized to venues where a variety of adaptive recreational sports can be undertaken. Adaptive sports include: hand cycling, mountain (hand cycling) biking, rock climbing, water skiing, jet skiing, white water rafting and scuba diving. In July 2014 VAS undertook white water rafting at the Gates of Ladore, Colorado where we lived on the Green River for 7 days and traveled over 120 miles.

Winter
The annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic is the largest annual rehabilitation event of its kind in the world and is sponsored by Department of Veterans Affairs and the Disabled Americans Veterans. This trip is organized to introduce disabled veterans to winter adaptive sports and invite past participants who increase their skills as well as mentor the new Vets.

Recreational Adaptive Sports and Therapy
When veterans join Veterans Adaptive Sports, they can identify their interests and discuss options with our staff. We provide opportunities to engage in adaptive sports all year long encouraging our member veterans to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle. We are taking advantage of the Palm Beach environment and water recreation opportunities. A number of volunteers host veterans to fish, cruise and enjoy water sports. We also assist veterans to obtain scuba certification where we encourage our divers to team up and dive regularly.
