SCI Active Network is a positive network connecting Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) survivors and their families through peer mentoring; and empowering an active lifestyle towards mobility, independence, and a higher quality of life.
SCI Active Network became reality with the start of Spinal Cord Injury Active Network being granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS in 2015. Since, we continually have our trained peer mentors visit, speak and teach classes at Northern California Rehabilitation Centers and community events, host over a dozen family-inclusive activities a year plus a monthly support network meeting in Berkeley and San Francisco. Also, we accept donated lightweight manual wheelchairs to maintain and provide to survivors in need with increased mobility, independence and quality of life.
The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of United Spinal supports the community of individuals whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury and disease. We serve the community by providing education, mentoring, peer support, and networking. We connect people with disability resources. We also serve the community through organizing disability advocacy groups and social events. Our mission is to improve and empower the daily lives of our community.
We meet every 2nd Thursday of the month in Berkeley, CA at the Ed Robert’s Campus.
We meet every 4th Thursday of the month in San Francisco, CA. Location TBD for January 2019.
